Scientists claim to have achieved a major breakthrough in the fight Type 1 diabetes symptoms by having a treatment which would save the sufferers from the lifetime of insulin injections.
In Your body, the patient’s faulty defense mechanisms targets the pancreas. Without treatment, this causes so much damage which it no longer naturally produces insulin to avoid blood sugar rising to levels that become dangerous. Without regular injections, the sufferer will fall into a coma and die.
Now, an international team says that the new treatment, codenamed DiaPep277, will block the procedure which causes the body’s immune system to attack the pancreas in individuals with Type 1 diabetes, and it’ll hit the markets within 36 months.
The scientists hope that in patients newly identified as having Type 1 diabetes, the treatment may prevent the disease from developing because it will stop the destruction of significant cells of the pancreas which will make insulin.
The drug will also allow the a patient’s body to continue making its own insulin, eventually allowing their pancreas to recuperate and make enough to support the body completely, the ’Sunday Express’ reported.
According to the American Diabetes Association,
23.6 million Americans (7.8% from the population) have diabetes and another 57 million people (18.8%) have insulin-resistant pre-diabetes. The vast majority of diabetes is the type II variety referred to as degenerative diabetes. Research has shown that degenerative diabetes is definitely an inflammatory disorder and is completely preventable & reversible through an anti-inflammatory lifestyle.
When we eat sugar or carbohydrates our gastrointestinal system converts these larger molecules into glucose that is then absorbed into the bloodstream and taken to every cell of the body. Blood sugar fuels cellular structure keeping them healthy. For healthy function it is important to maintain stable glucose levels.
Stabilizing blood sugar is largely controlled through the pancreas through a hormone called insulin. When the body recognizes that blood sugar is elevating the pancreas releases insulin. Insulin then acts because the key that fits the cell receptor door lock. Once insulin interacts with all the cellular door it opens and the sugar is able to enter the cell. If the working rhythm one of the pancreas, insulin, and cells are out of harmony, it produces insulin resistance and eventually degenerative diabetes.
An unhealthy diet and sedentary lifestyle will be the two biggest members for diabetes. When we eat carbohydrate and fiber foods we produce a large demand around the body for insulin production. Insulin is really a storage hormone that's also a precursor for inflammatory prostaglandins (cellular messengers). Bouts of elevated insulin put the body into fat storage metabolism and this increases inflammatory processes within the body. This increased inflammation damages the cell membranes from the body causing insulin receptor distortion that leads to insulin resistance.
With inadequate insulin signaling the blood glucose remains elevated. When blood sugar stays elevated for too long it interacts with enzymes and other protein molecules creating dangerous substances called Advanced Glycolytic End Products (AGEs). AGEs are highly inflammatory and destructive because they damage tissue throughout the body including nerve fibers and arteries. This is the reason for the neurological and cardiovascular complications a part of diabetes.
